The U.S. government remains closed due to the expiration of the ACA subsidies that made everyone think their healthcare insurance was affordable. But it wasn't. Here are some facts recently revealed in the media:
- 90% of Americans have been receiving some type of subsidy on health insurance, ranging from Medicaid and Medicare to the expiring ACA subsidies. So the "affordable" healthcare insurance is, in fact, truly unaffordable for all but the 10% of Americans who receive no subsidy. The system is a total fraud.
- A couple who makes $85,000 per year would see their premiums rise, without subsidy, to $20,000 per year from less than $8,000 currently.
- A 63-year-old woman who makes $65,000 per year would see her premium rise to $1,758 per month from $541 per month when the subsidies end.
And that's not the only "fake" affordability in the U.S. You'll find this same fraud in other sectors such as:
- The "affordable" apartment industry, a byproduct of Section 8, in which the resident pays nearly nothing for rent while the U.S. taxpayers pay virtually all of the actual monthly rent.
- The EV subsidies that made buying a Tesla $7,500 cheaper by having the U.S. taxpayer pay the difference.
- The Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) has been quietly subsidizing childcare across America.
- The "affordable" flood insurance for U.S. homeowners that is a fraction of the correct amount due to the U.S. taxpayer picking up the tab.
What's really unfair about this situation is that mobile home park owners are constantly criticized by bureaucrats and the media for increasing lot rents in small increments to keep up with inflation and try to better approximate market levels for housing prices. Yet WE ARE THE ONLY NON-SUBSIDIZED AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRODUCT IN THE U.S. We're not "fake". We're not given money from the government and taxpayers. We do what NOBODY can do and that's provide the least expensive housing on earth.
When someone complains about your lot rent going up $50 a month, remind them of the following:
- Housing cost is only the FOURTH highest monthly cost for the majority of American households, exceeded by health insurance, childcare, and transportation.
- All three of these are only "affordable" due to subsidies paid by U.S. taxpayers.
- Increases in mobile home park lot rents are a fraction of those in healthcare, childcare and transportation costs.
You would think that everyone is aware that the United States is broke. Based on its debt, it's the poorest nation in the world with over $35 trillion in debt vs. $70 trillion for all of the other countries combined. All of these subsidies, just like the ACA, will not be able to continue forever. And the simple fact that mobile home parks are the only legitimate "affordable" offering in America should be a cause for celebration and not ridicule.
How do you battle back this false narrative on "affordability" in the U.S.? Contact your congressman, join your state MHA, and stop being silent when woke writers and bureaucrats criticize mobile home park rents. Mamdani (the new mayor of NYC) may be the new face of socialism, but don't let these folks be the undisputed face of hypocrisy, too!
